Why I love, admire and cherish the character of the Doctor

(30-day New Who Challenge, Day 4 - you favorite character)

  • He’s incredibly dignified.
  • He’s constantly whiling to lend a hand.
  • He always knows just the right words to make people feel safe.
  • He’s seen so many incredible things, so he’s not easily amused.
  • He truly touches people.

I may be the only person who hasn’t seen this pic. Or maybe not. Idek. Anyway I just saw it on whofix and kind of let out a loud exclamation of ‘OMG that’s kind of adorable’ and decided my blog needed some Sylvester McCoy for a change.

Seeing these posts about the end of ‘Harry Potter’ drift by on my dash from time to time, I feel a little bit sad too. I mean I’m not in the fandom but it’s Harry Potter.

But… but what happens when… When ‘Doctor Who’ ends?

When 47+ years of awesome is never going to be added onto again? When we might watch the Doctor die for good, and the TARDIS is just some ordinary empty box again? No more companions. No more enemies - no Daleks, no Master. No nothing.

Supposing I live to 65, I’ve got 46 years left to live, and they cannot stretch the show out that long (though a part of me would like them to try). I’m gonna see it happen.

I’m gonna see the day ‘Doctor Who’ dies

“In one of the comparatively few perfect decisions in Doctor Who, Davison is allowed to finally expire saving, not the entire universe, but just one life. …For him, saving one life is as great an imperative as saving a galaxy. This, then, is the Doctor as I believe he ought to be — someone who would brave a supernova to rescue a kitten from a tree.”
— Steven Moffat

I am still very mad at the people complaining about Amy in Comic Relief.

Everyone is saying that she is too sexy to be a companion and there are some people calling her a slut.

Funny thing is, I don’t see them doing it to Jack. And Amy *IS* the female version of Jack.

What is so wrong about women being sexy?About women flirting? About wearing mini skirts and making jokes about it?

I’m sorry fandom, but I’m pretty sure that Jack would flirt with himself and I’m extremely positive that ALL-OF-YOU would love it.

Very interesting example of the double-standard.

‘Zactly. When Amy’s profession was revealed as “kissogram” people were bitching like madness about how sexist that is. Er… is it? Because here was I thinking it was just a job, which can be carried out by any gender. There’s nothing innately sexist about a job. The Doctor’s actually got his kit off (to quote the Moff) twice more than Amy in the last season… because Amy never got her kit off at all.

Jack got as close as you get can get pre-watershed to actually being called a slut (he even hid a gun up his arse, it’s an unspoken fact), kissed/flirted with everything that was sentient and legal, and Rose (and Martha, and Donna, and that guy in ‘Utopia’, and Chan’tho, and… everybody) found him attractive, but that was amusing. Amy wears a short skirt, flirts with herself and is considered attractive by a number of male characters, and that’s a problem?

/unnecessary repetition of the statement above

Graham Norton: [talking about David working in America] Here, David Tennant, Doctor Who…but suddendly, you’re in this new arena, are you having to, like, auditions?David Tennant:  Yeah, I’ve had to audition a bit. You get over the habit, it’s not good! Because that’s what you do as an actor, for years, and you get very used to it, but then of course, you forget, and you get spoiled, ‘cause people know who you are, and give you stuff, and you get very smug. And then you’ve to go out there and hassle again, yeah. Which is always a bit embarassing, everyone’s sort of sitting here thinking,
“I want you to die, GOOD LUCK!  Ooooh better looking than me, you bast…NO BREAK A LEG, GO ON!”

When you put people in these costumes, their natural instinct seems to be to dance. I’m gonna start making a list of Dancing Aliens I reckon

There should be a theme park dedicated to Doctor Who.

What? What would they do? Wibbly-wobbly TARDIS rides and “BE A DA-LEK! EX-TER-MIN-ATE!” shooting games?

Sounds like fun Doctor :)

‘House of Wobbly Mirrors’. If you touch the mirrors, they’ll wobble discreetly. Also, every corridor looks the same, and you’ll eventually realise that you’ve been running about in a loop of corridor due to budget restrictions! They only let you out if you present them with a matter/anti-matter musical instrument (depending upon which universe you’re residing in at the time).
